Nordic Walking in Obergurgl
"Nordic Walking" is walking with specially designed poles. This simple but effective concept has come over to us from Scandinavia. In Finnland, already a fifth of the population regularly practise Nordic Walking. It is so popular since it is done without additional strain or expense and is a highly efficient whole body training. It is almost half times more effective than walking without poles and increases the pulse to optimum fat burning as an active measure for weight decrease.
"Urweg Trail" and "Zirbenwald Trail"
The start to the Urweg trail from Obergurgl to the Karlsruhe hut is at the first bend in the road in the direction of the Gaisberg bridge above the village (way number 7). On the western side of the Hohen Mut, the trail is easy to intermediate and rises up to the Schönwies hut (2262m) at the entrance of the Rotmoos valley. From there it leads over the Karrenweg (way number 8) down to the Gurgl meadow (8000 year old cultural landscape) with the Schäfer hut made from stone. Then further into the valley on the slopes of the Hangerer under the Langtalereck and with steep curves up to the catered Karlsruhe hut.
Distance: 6,4 km
In addition the "Zirbenwald Trail" (2,2 km) close to the village has an exceptionally beautiful landscape setting and is a good practise trail for beginners.
